Your yoga teaching career and opportunities for personal growth are the repository of this most advanced yoga teacher training available. The 10 modules of UNION/YOGA Master Teacher Training put you in the position to gain scientific, psychological and spiritual information in areas of energetic anatomy & human physiology, yoga philosophy and principals, and historical and liturgical textual reference, to inform your own practice in profound ways and to take your students to the deepest levels in their yoga experience.
As more and more people become certified as Yoga instructors, only a few will move beyond initial, required training. The first step merely exposes where we yearn to go deeper. This program is for those of us for whom yoga is a life-long journey, and who are ready to take the path to a Master level.
This exclusive program meets all requirements of Yoga Alliance 500-Level Advanced Yoga Teacher certification. To participate in the UNION/YOGA Master Teacher Training students must have completed a 200 hour teacher training program. Exceptions are only with the prior approval the UNION/YOGA director and require a $180 processing fee.
UNION/YOGA Master Teacher Training begins June, 2006 and will conclude by January, 2008. Ten modules are spread out over a 2-year period, during which time teachers acquire the necessary required 100 hours of public teaching experience.

UNION/YOGA Master Teacher Training - Overview
The UNION/YOGA Master Teacher Training is based on an ancient Tantric, chakra-based approach to yoga, with emphasis on the eight limbs, ashtanga, as outlined by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras, and embracing the fundamentals of kundalini yoga as elucidated by Shyam Sundar Goswami in Laya Yoga.
"At the heart of Tantra is Kundliniyoga, and at the core of Kundaliniyoga is Layayoga."
Sundar Goswami
Layayoga is body-positive, revolving around the process of kaya-sadhana, or "body cultivation." The purpose of sadhana, purification practices, the asanas and pranayama is not mere physical fitness, but the awakening of the individuals innate power, kundalini-shakti, a form of conscious energy. With the full arousal of kundalini-shakti, one is awakened to the true nature of self; cit, pure universal consciousness.
It is our belief that Yoga, being the oldest extant method of conscious human evolution and Self-Realization, is best conveyed in the purity of its original intention. Layayoga is the Tantric process of dissolution of the common self, and union with the divine. We have called our program UNION/YOGA, in reference to a union that already, always exists. Yoga is union.
Ultimately, through specifically designed yogic practice, as kundalini rises through each psychospiritual center or chakra, the individual body is rendered transparent to that ultimate Reality. It is fundamental to recognize that our program embraces more than mere asana. Although asana and pranayama are core elements of UYTT, they are means, rather than end.
UNION/YOGA Master Teacher Training is a commuter and distance-study program consisting of two separate weeklong retreats and numerous weekend and daylong workshops. All components are held at UNION/YOGA at the Leelanau Center for Contemplative Arts, Lake Leelanau, Michigan unless otherwise noted. Some requirements may be completed in your home community or other Yoga Alliance sanctioned setting.
