What is the significance of OM?
Om, when pronounced correctly, vibrates with all of the vowel sounds. It is said to represent the sound of God, the word God spoke when creating the universe, the music of the spheres, and the harmony of creation. It is a word used in many languages to harmonize the human spirit with the Divine. In the West, we are most familiar with Amen, which means much the same thing. In fact, “om” is said to be the root of the word “Amen.” When we say "Om" at the end of a yoga class, the intent is to join our hearts and voices, bringing harmony to each other and the world around us.
