MOURNING

MOURNING

This morning I woke up mourning.

With the slow return of “normal” after our communal quarantine year, I feel so conflicted by the tremendous losses, versus the joy in anticipated renewal. It’s confusing. I should feel elated by the happy spring and summer days to come; and going forward, the predicted new rendition of the “roaring twenties.”

However, with the closure of Yoga4, I deeply feel the loss of our latest beloved Leelanau yoga home. I miss the uplift we felt from walking into the studio, being a part of that community. Now, even with the tentative return to visible smiles, hugs, and hands-on adjustments, I feel the loss of community gone adrift.

I also feel the suffering of so many who are in physical and emotional pain, and those who are suffering financial instability and food insecurity. Our neighbors and friends need us.

Even though we Leelanau teachers are united in our newly formed Leelanau Wellness Collective,* and are figuring out ways to serve you, we all feel the loss of our practice family and yoga gatherings. That’s difficult to reproduce without a home. I miss knowing where help is needed. I miss the casual greetings in the hallways, chance meetings in classes, new connections, and an expanding circle of like-minded health nuts. As things “open up” I still feel an aching, tangible loss, because even though we are all within a loving and beautiful network, we teachers are all still on our own, doing the best we can to serve you and stay centered ourselves.

With that said, I want to acknowledge those of you who have hung on and showed up. I thank those of you who have alerted us to opportunities where we may serve. You have given us encouragement. You have supported us online when that wasn’t anyone’s first choice. I love that week after week, I have felt wanted. I am grateful and honored to be your teacher.

May we openly mourn our losses and embrace, support, and love one another in our renewed, reconstructed web of holistic health and well-being. We have much work to do, and much to rejoice in.

I look forward to seeing you at my Leelanau classes.
